A place to relax

Our 3 story house was built between 1910-12 and provides 4 bedrooms, a large dining room, lounge and areas for guests to relax and slow down to the pace of life here in the Cantal.

The dining room has individual tables for everyone at breakfast or for evening meals plus a wood burner for winter nights. The lounge too has a fireplace for relaxing by in Autumn and Winter or as a quiet place to read or to make plans for the next days walking.

Outside space and gardens

We have a large garden with several private areas to relax amongst the wildlife and enjoy the peace and quiet of the valley. There are lots of pretty corners to sit and enjoy a book or an aperitif in the shade. There is shaded terrace by the house with views over the garden village and the valley. The gardens are the ideal environment to unwind after a day walking and exploring the Cantal or even the ideal place to spend the day just enjoying the Cantal from the comfort of a garden chair.

A garden full of poetry to read or have a drink, it’s like home but better!

Why a Normandy style house in the Cantal?

In 1897 Jean Jules Fayet and Victorine Jeanne Daval, both originally from the Cantal, married in Rouen in Normandy, they went on to have 3 children. In 1910 after many years living in northern France the Fayets wanted to come back to the Cantal. They purchased some land in Saint Cirgues de Jordanne to build their own home. As a tribute to his wife’s love for her previous home, Jean Fayet built a house in the architectural style of those she knew in Normandy.

The house was built of the same volcanic rocks as those of the traditional houses in the village around it but in the very distinctive style of a typical sea front villa from the North of France. The house, with it’s distinctive design, has come to be known as La Maison Normande and is easily identified from viewpoints near and far.
